Extensive selection of ales, ciders & wines
We are spoilt for choice for excellent local breweries here in the Teme Valley.
We offer Hereford Pale Ale (HPA) from Wye Valley brewery just down the road in Stoke Lacy. HPA is a truly delightful pale ale. It’s smooth on the palate, and boasts a citrus hop aroma leading to a balanced bitter finish. Locally-grown Target and Celeia hops play an important part in making this such a distinctive beer. With Maris Otter pale malt and malted wheat also being used, this is very much a pale ale with all the right ingredients.
From just over the Shropshire border, but less than 13 miles from the Baiting House, we offer the lovely Twisted Spire ale from Hobsons Brewery. It's a quenching low gravity beer with a nice bitterness in flavour and refreshing bursts of hop flavour which lingers through to a crisp dry finish. Twisted Spire is brewed with Hersbruker, Fuggles and First Gold hop varieties and Maris Otter malting barley. The beer's name was inspired by the curious and rare twisted spire church of St Mary the Virgin in the heart of Cleobury Mortimer, home to Hobsons.
We also offer a fine selection of ales from slightly further afield – Otter Bright from Devon and Sharps’ Doom Bar from Cornwall
For our ciders there’s really no need to go further afield than our home county of Herefordshire and its old twin county of Worcestershire. You won’t need to worry about your 'cider miles' with our selection.
We offer Stowford Press from Westons Cider in Much Marcle, near Ledbury. Desite being enjoyed worldwide, Stowford Press proudly maintains its Herefordshire roots.
Henney’s Autumn Gold comes from the wonderful Henneys Cider in Bishops Frome which, like the Baiting House, is actually in Herefordshire but carries a Worcestershire postcode just to confuse everyone!
Our cider selection wouldn’t be complete without the ever-popular Robinsons, from just over the other side of the River Teme in Tenbury Wells around 10 miles from the Baiting House.
Our owners are passionate about wine, and we aim to offer something to satisfy every palate. We have an unusually wide selection of wines by the glass (generally at least 10 at any given time) as well as several interesting an unusual offerings from both the new and the old world.
We have a fine selection of decent clarets with prices to match, but we aim to keep our wine list accessible and interesting so it changes regularly and – we hope – is keenly priced, with lots of choice below £20 per bottle.
