Ok we’re the first to admit that we’re hardly in the middle of shopping heaven. But you’d be amazed at how many truly quirky, individual stores are out there within an hour of the Bait. We’re focusing on homewares but there are lots of other options as well.
Baileys Home Store
Just under an hour from The Bait, Baileys Home Store in Bridstow, near Ross-on-Wye, is a must-visit for those seeking quirky, high-end shopping with a sustainable twist. Housed in a series of beautifully restored farm buildings, Baileys is more than a shop—it’s a destination. Prices reflect the quality, with some items like a large chopping board fetching £220, but more affordable treasures, like handmade soaps, ensure there’s something for every budget.
Hop Pocket Shopping Village: An Aladdin’s Cave of Gifts
Located just outside Bromyard on the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border (about 15 minutes away), Hop Pocket Shopping Village is a collection of independent shops offering everything from handmade crafts to unique homeware. Starting as a small gift shop in 1988, it’s now a sprawling destination with a food hall and ample parking, perfect for a day out.

Situated just a mile or two from the antique Mecca of Leominster, English Salvage’s three acres of outside display and over 12,000sq. ft of covered barns offer delights ranging from a vintage light switch to an entire gothic stone window.

Where do we begin? Home to the famous literary festival and renowned for its incredible bookstores. Take a wander around the pretty streets, packed with art galleries, homeware stores, eclectic antiques emporia, and, of course countless bookshops. Relax in boho cafes or head for the Thursday morning market which is packed with more than 40 stalls piled with gorgeous edible goodies and much more.
