5 Fantastic Circular Walks Straight from The Baiting House

Feeling energetic during your stay? Step straight out of your lodge door and onto some of the loveliest countryside walks in the Worcestershire-Herefordshire border area. All these circular routes start and finish at The Baiting House, so no driving is needed – just good boots (and perhaps a dog lead).

Here are our five favourite walks, ranging from an easy 4.5 miles to a more challenging 11.5-mile adventure:

Walk 1 – The Teme Valley and Sapey Brook (7 miles) This varied route takes you through peaceful countryside, passing the villages of Upper Sapey and Harpley before dropping down to Sapey Brook and the pretty St Bartholomew’s Church. You’ll pass two former water mills, spot a couple of waterfalls, and enjoy lovely views across the Teme Valley. Ideal for a full morning or afternoon.

Walk 2 – Southstone Rock and Temple Dingle (7 miles) A highlight for many guests, this walk brings you to the spectacular 50-foot tufa cliff at Southstone Rock and the atmospheric woods of Temple Dingle, complete with an interesting old building. Changing landscapes and beautiful woodland paths make this one of our most popular routes.

Walk 3 – Southstone Rock (5 miles) A shorter but still rewarding route that focuses on the dramatic 50-foot tufa cliffs at Southstone Rock. Perfect if you want a good stretch without committing to a full day.

Walk 4 – Southstone Rock, Temple Dingle and Sapey Brook (11.5 miles) The big one. This monster walk combines the best bits of the others – waterfalls, churches, historic villages, two former water mills, the impressive tufa cliff, and wonderful Teme Valley views. A proper day out for keen walkers.

All routes are dog-friendly and take you through beautiful countryside right on our doorstep. Print the PDFs before you head out, wear decent boots, and check the weather. In winter, some paths can get muddy – but that’s all part of the fun.

After a good walk, nothing beats returning to your hot tub lodge, firing it up, and watching the stars while your muscles relax. Or join us in the bar for a well-earned drink.

Which one will you try first? Let us know when you book – we’re always happy to give tips on the best route for the conditions.
